Programs and goals

We’ve just launched our first endeavor – a free orchestral music program for children at the East Austin College Prep charter school. The program is inspired by El Sistema, a world-renowned music education program that is used in 55 countries and more than 25 U.S. cities.

The Austin program is off to a great start, with 45 students enrolled in the first class. Demand was so high that we will add a second group in early 2012.

We hope to create other music programs in the future, because early music education not only helps children participate in and enjoy the arts – it can help them succeed in school.

Other goals:

Organize a mentoring program, connected to the performing arts, for economically disadvantaged and Hispanic middle and high school students to help them graduate and go on to college.

Provide opportunities for lower income middle, high school and college students to attend performing arts performances in Austin.

Organize arts performances for the general Hispanic community and underserved communities in our area.
